Dried Fruit and Almond Haroseth

A Passover staple that tastes nothing like an obligation. Dates, figs, and almonds pulse into a chunky, spiced paste with wine and bright orange notes. Sweet, slightly spicy, and complex enough to deserve a spot at any table.

Ingredients

4 servings

  • 13/4 cup pitted dates (about 4 ounces)
  • 11/3 cup raisins
  • 16 small Calimyrna figs, stemmed
  • 11 small orange, seeded, cubed
  • 11/3 cup coarsely chopped almonds
  • 11/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 11/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 11/4 cup dry red wine

Instructions

  1. Coarsely chop first 7 ingredients in processor. Add wine and blend, using on/off turns, until orange is finely chopped but mixture is still chunky. Transfer to bowl. DO AHEAD Can be made 4 days ahead. Cover; chill.
