Cardamom and Orange Panettone Toast

Crispy panettone slices get dressed up with orange butter and a cardamom-sugar crust that caramelizes in the oven. Sweet, fragrant, and dangerously easy to make. Perfect for breakfast or dessert when you want something special without the fuss.

Ingredients

  • 1Preheat oven to 400°F. Place on rimmed baking sheet and toast until light golden brown, turning once, about 10 minutes:
  • 18 1/2-inch-thick slices small panettone or four
  • 11/2-inch-thick slices large panettone, cut crosswise in half
  • 1Meanwhile, combine in medium bowl and blend with electric mixer:
  • 11/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 12 teaspoons grated orange peel

Instructions

  1. Mix together on a small plate:

  2. 5 tablespoons sugar

  3. 1 teaspoon ground cardamom

  4. Remove panettone from oven, spread 1 side of each slice with butter mixture, then press into sugar mixture. Bake until topping bubbles, about 4 minutes.
