Ingredients

  • 11 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 11 tablespoon finely chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 11 slice firm white sandwich bread with crust, coarsely ground in a food processor (about 1/2 cup)
  • 11/2 cup bottled chunky applesauce
  • 1Garnish: lightly sweetened whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Heat butter in an 8-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat until foam subsides, then cook nuts and bread crumbs with a pinch of salt, stirring constantly, until golden, 2 to 3 minutes.
